If you’re using a UNIX-like operating system, then the telnet client may be installed already. Just open a terminal application and try typing “telnet” at the command prompt. If not, try installing as noted below.
Max OS X:
Try using brew to install telnet on newer OS X
$ brew install telnet
Ubuntu:
Install telnet with apt
$ apt-get install telnet
CentOS/RedHat/Fedora:

$ yum install telnet
